Many doctors have been around other doctors too long. As in any profession they will develop their own language or jargon to describe what is happening with their patients. Unfortunately most of us are not doctors (nor would we want to be, given their workload and the increasing state of the NHS). Sometimes, and not deliberately, they forget to translate their jargon back into plain simple English that we all can understand. If a doctor uses a word you do not understand please ask them what they mean. They will not be offended or think you are stupid (unless of course you are a Professor of Medicine, in which case you should know better).
